I'm a widow with a 20 yr. old daughter in college. My husband passed away 8 years ago. Since my husband passed away I've always been able to manage my household and live a decent lifestyle. Basically with little debt and some money in the bank. Unfortunately when I lost my job in June 2010 I never thought I would have a problem finding a job. 13 months later and I'm still unemployed. This past March 2011 I made my last mortgage payment. After the March 2011 mortgage payment I had depleted all of my funds. There was no way to make the April mortgage payment. By the middle of April I started to receive phone calls from my mortgage company and then the letters started to come. Threatening me with possible foreclosure.

I had had numerous conversations on the phone with my mortgage company. These conversations would go on day after day and literally killing me inside. I had read about the HHF back in January 2011 but it was currently for Lee County only. It was a tremendous relief to me to read about it. When it finally opened up to the rest of Florida I had all of paperwork in order and completed the forms and praying that I would be accepted. My biggest concern right then was foreclosure and where were my daughter and I were going to go. My mortgage wasn't under water and it is all I had. I was being told by many people and read in the newspapers that it was almost impossible to sell a house now.

After completing all of the paperwork, I was contacted by Credit Card Management Services, Inc. They explained the whole process and was finally accepted by the HHF. I was able to call my Mortgage Company and explained to them that I was accepted by the HHF. They finally stopped calling me and the letters stopped. I also received a letter for the Mortgage Company that the HHF was going to take over. You have no idea what a relief it was for me to not have this situation hanging over my head and what was I going to do with no place to live. I know this is a temporary fix but I'm able to put all of my concentration on finding a job and truly able to sleep at night.

This past Sunday I had to finish bankruptcy counseling to get my case filed. I had to stop a foreclosure sale. I didn’t want to take a chance on my case not getting rejected because I did not have my client’s certificate.

I knew what to do- I can always count on Bill at DebtHelper to get my bankruptcy certificate out on time.

Even though they were closed, all I had to do was email.
